He grew up in St. John, KS, and graduated from St. John High School and Kansas State University in 1979. However, it was farming that was Bobs true passion, and he spent over forty years doing exactly that. He is preceded in death by his wife Billie Lois Marthaler. After that, he went to the Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans and studied religious education for three years earning a masters degree in religious education.
